Of all the damaged devices that come in here, a lot of them are damaged in what you might call an ‘expected’ way. Dropping things and breaking the screen, spilling a drink on a device, dropping something on a device, etc, are the vast majority of the reasons for a device getting damaged. Other times, it’s a more unusual situation, where you could say that a customer was unlucky with the damage caused to their device.

The MacBook pictured above was brought to our repair centre recently because it had completely stopped powering on, and this was happening for no apparent reason. One of our MacBook technicians disassembled it, and quickly realised that the device has been exposed to some form of moisture, and was liquid damaged. With any device that’s liquid damaged, the problems can become quite different device to device, and this damaged MacBook was no exception. On the logic board of the MacBook, some oxidation had appeared, which needed to be immediately removed using an ultrasonic cleaner.

Once this is complete, the liquid damaged MacBook board then needs to be checked for corrosion, which can damage components on the board which will need to be replaced. This repair was then completed by one of our technicians in a few hours, getting the broken MacBook back up and running in no time, as good as new.
