3 Tips to Keep Your Game Console Running Smoothly

Of all electronic devices that we use, our consoles can sometimes be the hardest working ones that we own. With their hardware often tested to the limit by new games being released, it's natural to wonder how you can maintain your console and help reduce the risk of issues down the line. We've made a list of some simple things that you can do to keep your console running and help avoid any breakdowns.

1. Plugging out the HDMI cable

This may seem like an odd one, but the PS4 is prone to a HDMI issue where the port becomes easily damaged and can either break, or become detached from the motherboard. The issue is repairable, but to avoid it it's best to not apply any real pressure to the HDMI cable when it's plugged into the console, to avoid any additional force being applied to the port. Also, it's worth trying to leave the HDMI cable plugged in when it's in its usual position, but then ensuring to plug it out to transport the console.

2. Allowing your console to overheat

This is more of a standard for consoles at this point, and is a common risk with consoles for a while now. The processors in your console can get quite hot when playing games, particular if it's a game that is particularly intensive graphically. If you're playing games, and notice that the fan is particularly loud and consistent so, it may not be a bad idea to let the console rest for a little while to cool down.

3. Environment

Another factor which could effect the lifetime of your console is the environment that you choose to store it in. Anything which could cause the console to overheat is best avoided, so storing it in direct sunlight while you use it is definitely to be avoided. Also, be careful of keeping the console anywhere dusty, as it could restrict the fan and cause overheating.
